I took myself to Gothenburg on a complete whim (as I found £30 return flights on Skyscanner – bargain!) and loved how laid back and friendly the city was.

How many days in Gothenburg is enough? Two days in Gothenburg might seem brief, but if planned well, it’s sufficient to get a taste of the city’s highlights. While longer stays allow for deeper exploration, a 48-hour itinerary packed with the city’s top attractions promises an unforgettable city break. Ideally, spending 3-4 days would provide a more relaxed pace to explore Gothenburg. However, 48 hours in Gothenburg can cover many of its iconic sites, leaving you yearning to return.

Here, you can try a classic Swedish kanelbullar, often called cinnamon buns, which boast a soft texture, a subtle touch of cardamom, and a rich butter-cinnamon core. • Now hop on over to Da Matteo for a delicious lunch. You will see Da Matteo pop up on many Gothenburg itineraries and with good reason. They serve the best coffee in Gothenburg, and a range of delicious lunch options.

Gothenburg Museum of Art

• The Art Museum in Gothenburg boasts one of Northern Europe’s most distinguished art assortments. Renowned pieces by legends like Picasso and van Gogh are displayed alongside contemporary masterpieces from artists including Charlotte Gyllenhammar, Lina Selander, and Cajsa von Zeipel. I could have spent way more time in here than I did. It costs 65 SEK for entry and is totally worth it for the amount of incredible Nordic art on display. You will also get access to any of the current exhibitions on too.

Palm House in the Garden Society

• Step into a tropical oasis in the heart of the city. There’s no admission fee and the interiors are brimming with lush palms, exotic vegetation, and a variety of vibrant flowers that captivate your senses.

Dinner at Koka

• • A must-visit for its modern Swedish cuisine. Koka in Gothenburg is a must-visit for its delicious vegan menu. Every dish is thoughtfully made but keeps its natural taste, made even better with great wine pairings. The friendly service adds to the whole experience, making Koka a parfect spot to eat when spending 48 hours in Gothenburg.

They have a very eclectic menu of cocktails, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
